What should you consider?

There are various factors to consider. It depends on the type of bike you have, the value of the bike, where you live (in the city or in a quiet village), and of course, how long you will be parking your bike.

Security levels of bike locks

AXA has categorized its range of bike locks into security levels. Level 1 represents the lightest bike lock, while level 25 represents the strongest chains that can be used to secure mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles.

To assist you in making a choice, we have classified our locks into high safety, medium safety, and basic safety categories.

High safety

Do you live in a busy city or do you park your bike in a theft-prone area for an extended period of time? Then choose a bike lock with security level 11 to 15, the ultimate protection for your bike! The majority of these bike locks have an ART certification, making them suitable for bike insurance in The Netherlands. Look for the ART logo to ensure that it is an approved lock for bike insurance. Read more about the ART certification here.

These bike locks are suitable for: electric bikes, speed pedelecs, cargo bikes, and city bikes.

Medium safety

These are strong bike locks that are ideal as a second lock for bikes parked at school or in busy public areas. Bike thieves often specialize in certain types of locks and therefore tend to avoid bikes with two locks. These locks have security levels 7 to 10.

These bike locks are suitable for: electric bikes and city bikes.

Basic safety

The bike locks that fall under basic security are lighter locks. Perfect for children’s bikes and for bikes that are parked for a short period of time in a location with a low risk of theft. These locks can be identified by security levels 1 to 6.

These bike locks are suitable for: bikes in a lower price range, children’s bikes, and folding bikes.
